Climbing Structure at the Mellrichstadt Town Wall
At the heart of the site by the Mellrichstadt town wall stands our custom-designed climbing landscape, covering approximately 320 square metres. Rather than installing isolated pieces of play equipment, we created a large-scale structure that blends seamlessly into the historic surroundings while offering children an outstanding play experience.
Our climbing towers, reaching heights of up to 9.20 metres, appear particularly light and transparent thanks to their construction of slender steel posts and three-dimensional spatial nets. The subtle beige ropes harmoniously complement the overall setting, allowing the historic town wall to remain the defining feature of the site. Children climb safely within the towers, while net funnels, net tunnels and bridges flexibly connect the different levels.
This structure links directly to the accessible sun deck and the so-called “Town Balcony”. Ground-level balancing elements then lead visitors to our approximately seven-metre-high Pentagode XL rope pyramid, which enables free climbing in a three-dimensional space.
As the site is located within the floodplain of the Mahlbach stream, the play architecture also impresses with its practical functionality. The open structures and robust materials minimise vulnerability to flood damage. Combined with permeable safety surfacing, the result is a low-maintenance installation. The outcome is a vibrant meeting place for all generations, where history, nature and adventure merge seamlessly.
